Lot Essay

M. F. Husain's knowledge of Indian classical and religious texts has deeply informed many of his works and can be considered an important sub-genre in his oeuvre. Maya with Pink Elephant references the miraculous dream of Queen Maya, of an elephant approaching her side. Portending greatness, she awoke having conceived Siddartha who later became the Buddha.
