Danielle Steel, one of the most popular and best-selling authors writing today, is also known for her dynamic, charitable and stylish persona with a flare for elegance and style.
During Ms. Steel's accomplished career, she has sold more than 580 million copies of her books in the U.S. alone, and is published in 47 countries and 28 languages. Of her 105 published novels, 21 of them have been adapted for television and she has received two Golden Globe
nominations.
She grew up in Paris and New York and was educated in the French school system. In 2002, the French government bestowed her with the honor of "Officier" of the Order of Arts and Letters for her lifetime contribution to world culture.
She is recognized for her philanthropic endeavors, managing two non-profit foundations dedicated to mental illness, homelessness, suicide prevention and child abuse. Ms. Steel has won numerous awards for her work with mentally ill adolescents and children. She is also the mother of nine children.
In addition to her more serious pursuits, she has had a lifelong interest in fashion. She attended New York University and Parsons School of Design, and is a devotee of haute couture. Complementing these passions is her love of jewelry, and she has assembled a collection of unusual pieces. She wears and collects jewelry by Verdura, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, Repossi, Belperron, Boucheron, Seaman Schepps, JAR, Graff, and a number of other prominent designers.
