Signed Jacob Frisard a Carouge, circa 1780
With gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, pierced and engraved balance cock, quarter hour striking on two hammers onto a bell, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic five minute divisions, gilt beetle and poker hands, in circular case with geometrical decorated band and bezel, quarter repeating activated by pulling the later cord, dial and movement signed

Lot Essay

The watchmaker Jacob Frisard was born in Villeret, Switzerland, in 1753 and died during a trip from Geneva to Constantinople in 1812. He worked in Geneva, Bienne, London and Constantinople and in partnership with Jaquet-Droz & Leschot in Geneva and Henry Maillardet in London.

Frisard specialized in automaton watches, singing bird boxes, snuff boxes and others mainly for the European, Turkish and Oriental market. The cases of his watches were often made by Geneva's most celebrated case makers.
