The watchmaker Jacob Frisard was born in Villeret, Switzerland, in 1753 and died during a trip from Geneva to Constantinople in 1812. He worked in Geneva, Bienne, London and Constantinople and in partnership with Jaquet-Droz & Leschot in Geneva and Henry Maillardet in London.
Frisard specialized in automaton watches, singing bird boxes, snuff boxes and others mainly for the European, Turkish and Oriental market. The cases of his watches were often made by Geneva's most celebrated case makers.
