Lot Essay

Born on 21 May 1758, Sir Lawrence Parsons, 5th Bt., was the son of Sir William Parsons, 4th Bt. and Mary Clere. He married Alice Lloyd, daughter of John Lloyd, on 1 May 1797 and was M.P. for Dublin University and King's College. A friend and follower of Henry Flood, he was a politician of great integrity. In 1807, he succeeded his half-brother as 2nd Earl of Rosse. He was a Representative Peer, and last Joint Postmaster-General for Ireland and died on 24 Feburary 1841. The family had seats at Birr Castle, Ireland and at Womersley Park, Doncaster, although the latter did not enter into the family until later in the 19th century.
