Type: 4:109R1, 2:88R2, 109Gk. 4- to 5-line initial spaces with guide-letter, initial opening text supplied in pink. (Small wormholes at beginning and end, occasional light spotting, mostly marginal, short marginal tear in first leaf.) 18th-century vellum-backed patterned-paper boards, spine lettered in ink (lightly rubbed, tears at spine). Provenance: A.S. FIRST EDITION of Barbaro's corrections of Pliny. His defence of Pliny from the attack of Leoniceno concerned itself with philological rather than medical or botanical argument and was based on a thorough examination of Pliny's Greek sources. He made over 5000 corrections to the received text of the Historia naturalis, nearly all of which were subsequently accepted. A large, fresh copy.
