Lot Essay

The present work is one of a series Feiler produced in the 1970s and 1980s which carried the titles Adytym, Auduton and Ambit, all Greek and Latin words whose meaning is essentially 'shrine'. The paintings in the series seek to create a sense of mystery, the idea of a journey into the composition to a hidden core. By using concentric squares of graduated colour and an inner, faint circle of the darkest colour the artist creates an elusive, fluctuating optical effect.
