Lot Essay

Donald Hamilton Fraser lived and worked in Paris between 1953-54 as a result of winning the French Government Scholarship. He painted several views of Paris, such as the Eiffel Tower, and particularly of the city at night. It is likely that the present work depicts a cluster of buildings standing on the banks of the Seine, with the arches of one of the bridges receding into the distance.
