K. Kryzhitsky was raised in Kiev and enjoyed the patronage of the well-known family of the leading military commander, General Raevsky. The artist was invited to the Raevsky's estate in the Crimea, 'Karasanne', which was renowned for its exotic gardens, parks and orangeries.
Following the artist's untimely death, a relative of N. N. Raevsky's wife, Princess S.M. Gagarina acquired the study Vue de l'Orangerie à Karasanne at a posthumous exhibition of Kryzhitsky's works. Until recently the painting has decorated the Raevsky descendants' country house in the south of France, named Karasanne in honour of the Crimean estate.
