An enamelled parcel-gilt and seed-pearl kovsh
marked Fabergé, with the Imperial warrant, Moscow, 1908-1917, with scratched inventory number 24699
The cylindrical bowl and handle with blue biscuit enamel bands, decorated with clusters of raised leaves in oxydized silver and with seed-pearls, in the Old Russian style, the rim raised at the prow and handle, both engraved with inscriptions, on cylindrical foot, the handle with knop finial, marked under base
7¾ in. (19.8 cm.) long
The inscription on the rim reads: 'To Commander H. Grenfell, R.N.', the Russian inscription translates as 'For a friend and comrade'. The Cyrillic inscription on the handle reads 'GENMOR' which translates as 'Russian Navy General Staff', together with the dates 1914-1917.
