A jewelled gold cigarette-case
marked Fabergé, with the Imperial warrant, Moscow, circa 1890
Rectangular, the cover and base with engine-turned panels of wave and dot design, the former with sapphire thumb-piece, a hinged vesta compartment at one end and tinder cord piercing, the interior with indistinct inscription, marked inside cover and base
3 5/8 in. (9.3 cm.) long
The indistinct inscription reads: 'To Anatole de Grunewald on VIPS salute a wonderful ..... Henry......'

Please note that the later inscription inside this cigarette-case, is to the well-known film producer and screenwriter, Anatole de Gunewald (1910-1967), whose family fled Russia in 1917. Educated at Cambridge and the Sorbonne, he turned to screenwriting in 1939 and produced the Oscar-winning film, VIPS starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, in 1963.
