By Fabergé, circa 1900, the miniature by Johaness Zehngraf (1857-1908)
Rectangular, with opaque white rims with shaded orange poppy flowers wreath on stipple ground, the oval aperture containing a portrait miniature under glass of Princess Iréne Alexandrovna in a white dress with pale coral ribbons and sash, painted on ivory with a silver-mounted ivory back, signed on left border 'Zehngraf', the frame apparently unmarked

Lot Essay

Princess Iréne was the daughter of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna and Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich. She was born in 1895 and in 1914 married Prince Felix Yousupov. She died in Paris in 1970.

Johannes Zengraff (1857-1908) was the chief miniaturist in the firm of Carl Fabergé in St. Petersburg and specialised in portraits of the Imperial family.
