Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirm production of the present watch in 1965 and its subsequent sale on November 18th, 1965.

The complex perpetual calendar mechanism was first integrated in a wristwatch by Patek Philippe in 1925. This mechanism automatically displays the correct date keeping track of the months with 31, 30, and 28 days as well as for the 29th of February which occurs every four years.

Reference 3448, launched in 1962, was at the time the first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch. First powered by the calibre 27-460, the best constructed self-winding movement for its time, and was later upgraded with Patek Philippe's patented perpetual calendar mechanism re-referenced as 27-460 Q.

Made until 1982, an estimated 586 examples were produced, majority cased in yellow gold. This model was succeeded by an improved reference, the 3450 (lot 2805).

The present watch features a highly unusual dial layout with ruby-set hour makers. According to literature this design has never appeared in Patek Philippe's catalogues hence is believed to be the product of a special request.
