Vianny Halter is an imaginative and passionate horologist. He attended watchmaking school in Paris at the age of thirteen and began specialising in horological restoration work in Switzerland at seventeen. In 1993, Halter collaborated with the house of Harry Winston to create the Opus III. The master watchmaker then founded his own company - La Manufacture Janvier in 1994, paying tribute to the renowned French clockmaker Antide Janvier (1751 - 1835).

Antiqua, the first Vianney Halter model, debuted at the Basel Watch Fair in 1998. This watch has a style which may be best described as a "relic of the future". The heart of the watch is the calibre VH198, developed in-house and shares mechanical movements with the Lemania calibre 8810. Each Antiqua requires approximately 900 hours to complete - the case is composed of nearly 100 parts of 30 different types and each dial is hand-engraved making each watch unique.
