Lot Essay

After the figure of Saint Andrew on a sheet of studies attributed to Benedetto Caliari, brother of Paolo Veronese, at Chatsworth (M. Jaffé The Devonshire Collection of Italian Drawings, Venetian and North Italian Schools, IV, London, 1994, p. 137, no. 845). The figure relates to one in the nave of S. Sebastiano in Venice. Schiavone worked on the frescoes in the church with Benedetto Caliari as assistants to Veronese.
