Lot Essay

The subject of this drawing can be compared to another sheet by Morandi in the Louvre (inv. no. 53020) (De la Renaissance à l'Age baroque. Une collection de dessins italiens pour les musées de France, exhib. cat., Paris, Louvre, 2005, no. 113). The present drawing seems to represent a processional masquerade on an Italian square, with people dressed in Turkish costume.
