Bolivar

The present gouache is a study for a stage set Léger created for the opera Bolivar. It premiered at the Opéra de Paris on 12 May 1950; the music was composed by Darius Milhaud, Madeleine Milhaud wrote the libretto, Serge Lifar was the choreographer and Léger designed the sets and costumes.
