Lot Essay

Tiffany Studios was renowned for the beauty and variety of its many types of glass. Experiments at the firm produced a wide range of effects, among them pieces like this one, called 'lava' glass. While molten, lustrous gold glass was applied to the body of the vessel and often took irregular forms, as it was supposed lava might do in nature.
