Lot Essay

"In his most recent paintings, rigid, dry and vibrant, Gerzso explored hidden sediments, old and new: his visions possess a corporeality formed in a diaphanous play of lines against haughty surfaces of unified and unnamed color, icy cold and burning most often, as thought it were an intense and direct silvery light. His world seems--only seems--to be more impassioned by art than by life. This does not insinuate any criticism whatsoever. It is his strength."

Luis Cardoza y Aragón.
