Rectangular, the burnished gold cover, four sides and base centred by cartouches chased in four-colour gold with scènes galantes and scènes champêtres after Boucher, fully marked

Noël Hardivilliers's designs frequently took their inspiration from prints by Boucher, as can be seen on the cartouches of the present box. A snuff-box in the Louvre depicts a version of Renaud and Armide which has been directly linked to an engraving after Boucher (inv. OA6765, S. Grandjean, Catalogue des tabatières, boîtes et étuis des XVIIIème et XIXème siècles du musée du Louvre, Paris, 1981, p. 114, no.126).

Une autre tabatière par Noël Hardivilliers, conservée au musée du Louvre, reprend à l'identique une gravure de Boucher représentant Renaud et Armide (inv. OA6765, S.
