A décor de chinoiseries dans des cartouches rocaille, les montures dorées de la bouilloire ajourées d'un buste de femme, le support sur patins en coquille, les montants terminés par des aigles, les prises en pomme de pin, l'anse de la théière et de la bouilloire en osier, celle de la cafetière en bois, les plateaux circulaires appliqués d'une bordure crénelée et gravés de trophées de fleurs et cartouches rocaille sur fond amati, comprenant:
- Une bouilloire et son support tripode
- Une cafetière
- Une théière et un support assorti
- Un pot à lait
- Un sucrier couvert
- Deux plateaux

AN EXTENSIVE RUSSIAN GILT-AND PATINATED BRASS TEA-AND COFFEE- SERVICE
PROBABLY BY THE DEMIDOFF WORKSHOP, THE URALS, CIRCA 1770
Comprising:
- a tea-kettle and stand (burner lacking) on incurved trefoil tray - overall height 35 cm. (13¾ in.)
- a pear-shaped coffee-pot on spreading foot - 25 cm. (9 7/8 in.) high
- a covered sugar-bowl - 16 cm. (6¼ in) high
- a pear-shaped cream-jug - 13 cm. (5 in.) high
- a bullet-shaped teapot together with an associated oblong stand - 13 cm. (5 in) high
- a pair of shaped circular trays -40 and 41,5 cm. (15¾ and 16 3/8 in.) diameter
Each with gilt border chased with scrolls and foliage, the bodies variously chased with figures in landscapes, buildings, scrolls and foliage, the trays each with vacant rococo cartouche incorporating putti, the kettle with fixed bird and scroll overhead handle terminating in female busts.

Copper was extracted in the Urals where most of the mines for this material belonged to the Demidoff family. They also owned mines producing iron, silver, and both precious and semi-precious stones. From the middle of the 18th century, the family opened workshops which produced, among other things domestic objects such as teapots and coffee-pots repoussé and chased with rococo motifs in partly-gilt metal.

Lot Essay

Le cuivre provenait pour l'essentiel des mines en Oural appartenant à la famille Demidoff qui possédait aussi des mines de fer, d'argent et de pierres précieuses et semi-précieuses. Vers le milieu du XVIIIème siècle, ils ouvrent des ateliers qui réalisent, entre autres, des objets domestiques en cuivre tels que des cafetières et théières décorées de motifs rocaille repoussés et ciselés.
