Reine de Bertier records a slightly smaller variant of this composition (panel, 31.5 x 44.5 cm.) in a private collection, Paris, that may have formed part of a small series of winter scenes (see R. de Bertier de Sauvigny, Jacob et Abel Grimmer, Brussels, 1991, p. 279, no. 8, fig. 144).
