This and the four other vintage color prints by Guy Bourdin in the present catalogue (lots 15, 215, 221 and 222) are rare, likely unique prints from a time when Bourdin made virtually no color prints. He had no reason to, working as he did for the magazine page, submitting his original transparencies from which the printing plates would be engraved. The present prints were made for Nancy-Hall Duncan's pioneering exhibition 'The History of Fashion Photography', the first scholarly and substantial museum exhibition to focus on this aspect of the medium.
Hall-Duncan states that 'The resulting group of vintage color prints is, to my knowledge, the only such group extant in private hands.'
