HELMUT NEWTON (1920-2004)
Michael Hutchence was the lead singer of the rock band INXS. The name -- pronounced, of course, 'in excess' -- gives a clear indication of the 'wild man' image that Hutchence cultivated and that Newton so effectively evoked in the portraits that he created of Hutchence and the band, notably the present baroque and erotically charged composition.
