signed 'A.Rodin' (on the left side of the base); inscribed with the foundry mark 'L.Perzinka fondeur Versailles' (on the back of the base)
bronze with brown patina
Height: 18 3/8 in. (46.8 cm.)
Conceived between 1887 and 1895 and in this reduced size in 1895; this bronze version cast in 1901
Provenance
Keller & Reiner Kunstsalon, Berlin, by whom acquired directly from the artist in 1901.
Friedrich Alfred Krupp, Villa Hügel, Essen, by whom acquired from the above on 2 August 1901, and thence by descent to the present owner.
