signed and inscribed with the foundry mark 'A.Rodin Thiébaut Frères Fumière et Gavignot Scrs Paris' (on the top of the base); numbered '5804' (on the inside of the base)
bronze with brown patina
Height: 19 5/8 in. (49.8 cm.)
Conceived in 1878 and in this size in 1898; this bronze version cast between 1899 and 1905
Provenance
Collection Latarjet, Lyon, by whom acquired circa 1910, and thence by descent; sale, Christie's, New York, 10 May 2001, lot 343.
