Représentant en premier plan, trois hommes remplissant un puits de terre, en arrière-plan, hommes bâtissant des maisons et menant des troupeaux, portant l'inscription 'GENESE XXVI' en lettres dorées le long du bord supérieur et signée des initiales 'S.C.', le marli orné d'animaux fantastiques alternant avec des masques et des urnes; le revers orné de quatre termes grotesques, de masques de femme et de vases de fleurs insérés dans un motif d'entrelacs, le marli orné de motifs floraux dorés; très légère usure à la dorure

A CIRCULAR PARCEL-GILT POLYCHROME ENAMEL DISH DEPICTING ISAAC AT GERAR BY SUZANNE DE COURT, CIRCA 1600
Depicting three men shovelling earth into a well in the foreground and with men building houses and herding animals in the background, inscribed in gilt lettering along the upper edge '.GENESE.XXVI' and signed with initials '.S.C.'; with an outer border decorated with fantastical beasts alternating with masks and urns; the reserve with four grotesque herm figures, female masks and vases with flowers contained within strap-work and an outer border of gilt stiff-leaf decoration; very minor wear to gilding
Although no works among the many surviving objects signed by Suzanne Court are dated, it is generally agreed on stylistic grounds that she was active around 1600. A number of plates exist which appear to be part of the same series as the lot offered here including a pair of plates offered in the Cyril Humphris Collection (Sotheby's, New York, 10 Jan. 1995, lot 11) and an example in the Louvre (Baratte, loc. cit.).
