Lot Essay

Hobun was born in Osaka and studied under the Shijo-school painter Kono Bairei (1844-1895). He taught at the Kyoto Municipal School of Fine Arts and Crafts and was a frequent exhibitor with and juror for the Bunten. He was one of the founders of the Kyoto Nihonga school.
