The translucent nephrite panel centering a gold coin dated 1777, the obverse depicting the profile of Empress Catherine II and enameled in strawberry red over a hatched guilloché ground, all within a diamond-set rocaille border surmounted by a diamond-set Imperial crown, in the original silk and velvet lined wood case stamped, 'Fabergé St. Petersburg Moscow, Odessa', marked on border and pin

Lot Essay

The Rococo style surround of the present brooch recalls a photograph frame produced in Fabergé's Moscow workshops and presented to Queen Louise of Denmark by Queen Victoria in 1898 (now in the Collection of Joan and Melissa Rivers).
