Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with applied white gold indexes in 1954 and its subsequent sale on 10 August 1955.

Examples of reference 2526 in platinum are exceedingly rare; it is thought that less than 20 examples cased in this exclusive material have appeared in public to date and only five, including the present watch, with enamel dial.

Although this watch was originally entered in Patek Philippe's archives to have left the manufacture with a leather strap, the present bracelet is from the same period and is most certainly original to this watch, added upon request from its first owner shortly after its purchase.

Lately overhauled in the workshops of Patek Philippe in Geneva, the watch is preserved in excellent overall condition, still retaining the protective sticker to its back.

The icy beauty of its platinum case combined with the traditional enamel dial, the platinum bracelet and the outstanding overall condition render the present watch a trophy for the discerning collector.

Reference 2526, introduced in 1953, was Patek Philippe's first model featuring an automatic movement, the legendary calibre 12-600 AT.

Other examples of reference 2526 are illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, first edition pp. 168-169, second edition pp. 213, 216-217.

For an example of a reference 2526 in pink gold with pink gold bracelet see lot 249 in this auction.
