Lot Essay

With IWC Extract from the Ledger issued on 22 January 2009 and confirming sale of the watch on 13 January 1954 to Siber Hegner in Zurich, at the time an export company of consumer goods.

Although reference 520 was generally available with the standard gilt or silvered dials, it can safely be assumed that the present cloisonné enamel dial was added upon special request, bearing in mind that such versions enjoyed significant popularity amongst collectors. In fact, the present dial is one of 12 similar cloisonné enamel dial motifs used by IWC at the time.

For an IWC wristwatch from the 1950s with similar cloisonné enamel dial see Ore d'Oro 2 by J. Barracca, G. Negretti, F. Nencini, p. 161.
