Lot Essay

Launched in 1958, reference 5508 was an upgraded version of reference 6536/1, depth rated to 100 meters (330 ft), the case without crown guards and the newly designed bezel with divisions for the first fifteen minutes, larger silver triangle and luminous bubble. The dial featured the gilt printed "Submariner" and came both with and without the white printed depth rating.

The present reference 5508 is a fine example from the series launched in the late 1950s, the signature and scales printed in gilt but with the addition of the white printed depth rating "100m=330ft".
