Lot Essay

The figure fishing in the present work is Christian C. Sanderson, a well-known historian from Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and long-time friend of the Wyeth family. After Sanderson died in 1966, Andrew Wyeth helped to establish the Christian C. Sanderson Museum, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, in his memory.

This watercolor will be included in Betsy James Wyeth's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work.
