A DAZZLING PALETTE
Natural coloured diamonds are one of nature's best-kept secrets. The world's rarest and most valuable gemstone, coloured diamonds are enchanting little treasures that can be found in all the colours of a rainbow. Forged from carbon atoms deep within the earth, these diamonds acquire their colour from the presence of additional trace elements or distortions to the typical diamond structure. Each is a unique expression of nature, with its own special story derived from its hue, tone and saturation.
Coloured diamonds are, however, an enigma for not all colour sources are known. While gemmologists have discovered that green diamonds owe their colour to natural radiation, blue diamonds from boron, pink diamonds from crystal deformation, these gem-scientists have yet to establish definitively the causes of colours such as purple, brown and orange. Nevertheless, whether we can or cannot ascertain how coloured diamonds obtain their colour, one thing is for certain: these gems are notorious for their paucity of supply. The number of coloured diamonds available at any one time is so small that statistics cannot be applied - their price as unique as the object in question. Lot 1732 presents an extraordinary view of nature's masterpieces. This exquisite suite is exceedingly rare with 56 pieces of coloured diamonds showing a thrilling range of hues - all of natural colour origin. From a vivid purplish-pink of a hydrangea flower to the intense blue of a vast ocean, from the vivid yellowish-orange of bright marigold to an intense green of a tropical bird, the use of diamonds is like an artist to a palette. Dazzling with brilliant colour, this suite demonstrates a predilection for the very finest and is an exciting opportunity for collectors to acquire a precious jewel - one truly rare and beautiful.
