Quarto (348 x 254 mm). With the two flags and acetate overlay. Monochrome and colour photographs and illustrations throughout, some folding, many mounted. (Some folding plates with minor creases.) Original brushed white cloth, front cover titled and blocked in silver, spine titled in silver, without dust-jacket or slipcase perhaps as issued (light soiling and wear, small scuff to the silver on the front cover). Provenance: Sven Linderot (1889-1956; by repute).
FIRST EDITION. AN EXCELLENT COPY IN A VARIANT BINDING: this one with the title blocked in silver on the front cover. On some copies the title appears on an acetate dust-jacket instead. In the present case a jacket would have been redundant, and the excellent state of preservation suggests that this variant may not have been issued in one. 'Amongst the grandest soviet photobooks, the monumental Heroic Epic celebrates one of the most glorified events in 1930s Stalinist Russia'.
