GORDON MATTA-CLARK
[Walls paper. New York: Buffalo Press, 1973.]

Small oblong folio (255 x 185mm). 30 leaves of tinted photographic plates, 2 of these folding. Original photo-illustrated card covers (some creases and small dampstains). Provenance: Gordon Matta-Clark (presentation inscription to:) -- Robert Whitman (artist, b.1935; by repute).

RARE PRESENTATION COPY OF A PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN VARIANT, inscribed by Matta-Clark. The artist signs for himself and Carol Gooden, with whom he had co-founded SoHo's Food restaurant -- a regular haunt for downtown Manhattan artists. Though clearly based on Walls paper this could be seen as a work in its own right: this version comprises a tighter selection of images, and shows one half of each split building. The covers use one of the same images as the edition but printed in reverse, and the verso of the covers are blank rather than printed. cf. The Photobook, vol. II, pp. 131, 148-9.
