YUTAKA TAKANASHI
Toshi-e -- Towards the City. Tokyo: for the author, 1974.

2 volumes: folio (420 x 280 mm) and quarto (257 x 183 mm). 62 photographs, and 54 photographs. Original black cloth with metal disk mounted on the front panel, spine blocked in white, quarto volume in original black wrappers, printed paper label on cover (minor spotting on the metal disk - much less than is usual), both volumes laid-into the original black cardboard clamshell box, printed paper label on spine overlapping on front cover, in the original cardboard shipping box (soiling and light wear on the shipping carton). Provenance: Yutaka Takanashi (gift inscription to:) -- Hisato Aikura.

FIRST EDITION, AN EXCELLENT PRESENTATION COPY IN THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING BOX, INSCRIBED BY TAKANASHI to Hisato Aikura, the Jazz critic and director of music at the 'Pit Inn', Tokyo's premier venue for Jazz when it opened its doors in Shinjuku in the mid 1960s. Toshi-e is the 'most luxurious' and last of the Provoke books, by one of its founding members; taking as his theme the cost paid by Japan for unbridled consumerism, 'Takanashi addresses this complex question with lyrical passion'. The Photobook, vol. I, p.302.
