Oval and on spreading foot, with reeded rim and two openwork foliage and shell handles, the cover with shell and rocaille finial, engraved twice with a coat-of-arms, marked underneath, on foot, handles, near rim, cover bezel and finial

A tureen and cover of very similar form by Friedrich Wilhelm Sponholtz of Danzig, dated 1768-89 is illustrated in Ein Rheinischer Silberschatz Schumk und Gerät aus Privatbesitz, Cologne, 1980, p. 166-167, no. 236.
