Lot Essay

A handwritten concept for a Search Engine that classifies the search results of a query not according to rational, numerical, alphabetical methods, but according to 'soft' methods using metaphors and personal associations.

Harrie de Kroon is a Dutch artist who, in the first part of his career, has concentrated mainly on performances. As the artist states: performances are "the purest form of expression, the most satisfactory medium". Next to performances he also made video works like 10/78 and photo pieces, drawings and installations, that were exhibited in amongst others: de Appel in Amsterdam (1977, 1979, 1984), Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (1977), ICC in Antwerp (1979), Franklin Furnace, in New York (1980), Centre George Pompidou in Paris (1988). After participating in Documenta 8 in Kassel he started concentrating on organizing digital information using internet mechanisms and policies. This resulted in television programs with all kinds of archival material that were broadcasted on the channel 'Kleurentelevizie' (2007-2008) and as live streams on the internet. Since 1985 he has worked on an ongoing project; [WDIGGIE], a search engine for the internet.
