Lot Essay

Sebastien Le Prestre, Marshal Vauban (Saint-Leger-de-Foucherets 1633-1707 Paris), is France's most renowned military engineer. Throughout his career in the service of Louis XIV, Vauban consolidated the kingdom's borders by establishing a networks of citadels with modern fortifications that encircled the country, many of which still stand today.
