Lot Essay

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated August 26, 2005, leather winding box, leather enveloope, instruction booklet, tie tag and outer packaging.

To the best of our knowledge the present watch has never before been offered in public.

Patek Philippe produced the reference 5059 from 1998 until 2006 when it introduced reference 5159. The reference 5059 is known for its retrograde date display. The date hand traverses a 240 arc located within the hour scale between 8 and 4 o'clock. At midnight on the last day of each month the date hand "flys" back to the first of the next month.

A similar lot is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches, by O. Patrizzi, Volume 2, p. 294, pl. 1213.
