Lot Essay

Adams' snapshot of his wife Virginia and Jane Paxson, sunbathing during a Sierra Club Outing in 1930, is illustrated in Ansel Adams: Letter and Images, 1916-1984, p. 44. Lots 750, 752 and 753 were gifts from Adams to Jane Taylor Paxson. Lot 750, Adams' early Self-Portrait in uncharacteristically formal attire, is extremely rare.
