Lot Essay

Another version was sold recently with Artcurial- Briest- Poulain- F. Tajan, Paris, 22 June 2009, lot 7.

The present composition was part of a series of six pictures depicting each two months of the year. The present lot depicts the winter months December and January which is indicated by the girl on the left holding a 'duivekater-brood' which is traditionally baked between the 6 December (Sinterklaas) and 6 January (Pentecost).
