Lot Essay

Jan Bebijs Tom lived and worked in The Hague, and was awarded the 'Stedelijke medaille' of Amsterdam in 1871. He was trained by the renowned landscape painter Andreas Schelfhout (1887-1870). It is not often that works of this calibre come to the market by this artist. The immaculate use of sunlight and the skillful representation of the animals, make the present lot undoubtedly the crown jewel of the artist's oeuvre.
