Gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely pierced and engraved balance cock and foot, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, Arabic 60 minutes divisions, gold arrow hands, outer Arabic date ring with central date hand, plain circular inner case, swivel bow, finely chased and engraved floral decorated outer case, inner case stamped with casemaker's initials LLD, movement signed

Lot Essay

The partnership of James Markwick and his son-in-law Robert Markham is recorded in London between circa 1725 and 1805. Although Markham died in 1730, Robert Markham continued to use the combined name. Marwick Markham specialized in clocks and watches for the Ottoman Empire (see lot 35 in this auction).
