All cased in platinum, the watches are preserved in like new condition. The first series of F.P. Journe's production, such as the watches offered here for sale, featured a different dial finish, rendering the pink gold a more bronze-coloured hue. Examples from the very first generation are today much sought-after collector's watches. Lots 119 to 122 are from the celebrated Octa collection of mechanical wristwatch chronometers, introduced into the market in 2001. The series is distinguished by the self-winding movements with the extraordinary power reserve of 5 days or 120 hours while maintaining a case diameter of 38 mm. and thickness of 5.7 mm., regardless of the complications added.

Lot Essay

With F.P. Journe Certificate of Authenticity and Warranty dated 29 May 2002, instruction manual, polishing cloth, three-tier wooden presentation box and outer packaging.

The new Tourbillon Souverain, another of F.J. Journe's horologic masterworks, is distinguished by its complications, combing a one minute tourbillon with a remontoir and independent seconds. The remontoir provides a constant force to the balance, hence maintaining an equal rate of force whether the watch is fully wound or not and increasing the precision.

The independent seconds, a unique feature in a contemporary wristwatch, provides a more accurate reading of time. The French term for "independent seconds", "seconde morte" or "dead seconds" comes from the fact that the hand remains motionless ("dead") for as long as the second has not actually elapsed, meaning the second is only indicated once completed.

François-Paul Journe's ingenious masterpiece is the first wristwatch combining a remontoir d'égalité, dead beat seconds and a tourbillon regulator.
