Lot Essay

This work appears to depict the same sitter as in Little Girl Wearing a Straw Hat, in the collection of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea. Cecily Langdale suggests that this model sat for the oil painting La Petite Modéle (C. Langdale, Gwen John, New Haven and London, 1987, no. 62), although the identity of the sitter is not known.
