CIRCA 1560, POSSIBLY FONTANA WORKSHOP
Painted with Caesar seated before canopied tents receiving tributes from soldiers, in a wooded river landscape with hilltop villages in the distance, within a manganese line and ochre band rim, the reverse inscribed il tributo et Cesare: in blue script (restored section to rim between 12 and 2 o'clock and 5 and 8 o'clock with associated areas of retouching, restored rim chip at 10 o'clock, slight rim chipping)
