PRIVATE COLLECTION OF A STUDENT OF ZHAO SHAO'ANG

Among the second generation painters of the Lingnan School, teachers Zhao Shao'ang and Yang Shanshen were the most creative and passionate in their dedication to education. Mr. Zhao's students especially loved to gather and share their painting experiences. They met on a regular basis at Luk Yu Tea House in Central District, Hong Kong between the 1970s to 1980s. They often talked about their own works and collections. When they were in high spirits or felt themselves among close friends, they would exchange their paintings. Lady on a Boat by Deng Fen was obtained in this way. Another painting Misty River Li in the Rain, which is beloved by its owner, was created by Zhao Shao'ang in 1965. This rare ink painting eloquently expresses the spirit of the landscape.
