Hannah Gubbay was born circa 1886 to E.D. Ezra and Mozelle Sassoon, daughter of Sir Albert (Abdullah) Sassoon, 1st Bt., she was a cousin of Sir Philip Sassoon, through her mother, and shared many of his artistic interests. At her home Little Trent Park, Hertfordshire, Mrs. Gubbay assembled an outstanding collection of 18th-century English furniture, and ceramics, Meissen and Nymphenburg porcelain and Chinese porcelain and jade. At a time when many ancestral collections were being broken-up, she was fortunate enough to have ample funds to indulge her passion, and was a regular visitor to antique dealers in Bond Street, often accompanied by Queen Mary. On her death in 1968 she left her collection to the National Trust and it is now displayed at Clandon Park, Surrey.
