Lot Essay

Bruce Downes was the influential editor of Popular Photography for a number of years and was widely acknowledged as one of the foremost writers on photography. He counted among friends and associates many of the the leading photographers of the day. This lot was a gift to him by Avedon to mark his retirement in 1964.
